Public safety is our top priority. Here’s how to enjoy the race safely:

• Stay behind all cones, barriers, and caution tape—they mark restricted or active race zones.

• Do not enter the boat launching areas or docks without clearance.

• Supervise children closely and keep pets on leashes.

• Listen to and follow instructions from BPBA safety marshals, race officials, or volunteers.

• Never enter the water during an active race.

Yes—but with strict safety conditions:

• Stay well clear of the marked race course at all times.

• Do not cross the race route while boats are running.

• Spectator boats and personal watercraft (PWC) must remain anchored or idle outside the perimeter buoys.
  

If in doubt, check with the nearest BPBA safety boat or marine patrol before positioning yourself.

BPBA sets each course using a combination of:

• Brightly colored buoys and markers

• Land-based spotters and marshals

• Mobile safety boats and marine police patrols

• Clear no-entry zones communicated before and during the race
  

The course layout changes depending on the race location and class of boat. In high-speed races, such as offshore or the Round the Island Race, wide open-water zones are used. For inshore races, tighter, more technical courses are marked closer to land.

Immediately alert the nearest BPBA official, race marshal, or marine safety patrol. Only trained personnel should enter a crash zone or respond to incidents during a race.
